Dan George

Dan George is Chief of Ts’il Kaz Koh (Burns Lake Band), currently serving his second consecutive term as Chief Councillor for his northern BC community. He is an Indigenous leader who is dedicated to social and economic development equality for Indigenous peoples and has served as a leader fiercely advocating for change on these issues at local, provincial and national levels.

As a founding board member of the Housing & Infrastructure Council, Dan brings extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in First Nations Housing having been responsible for 15 years of renovation and infrastructure projects throughout BC. He has conducted over 2,500 building inspections including 13 years teaching courses through Aboriginal Capacity Development, which led to becoming a professional trainer for the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

Dan has overseen numerous projects throughout his tenure as Chief/Councillor for his community to create economic development opportunities, such as the recent opening of Key-Oh Lodge, a 42-room hotel situated next to the Rainbow Gas Bar, both owned and operated by Burns Lake Band.

Dan continues to reside in Ts’il Kaz Koh in the home he personally built 20 years ago. As a former Captain of the Burns Lake Fire department for 16 years, Dan recognizes the importance of building better bridges of understanding between neighbouring cultures and firmly believes that working together allows for the prosperity and success of all involved.
