RE: Call for Expressions of Interest for specialist members on the BC First Nations Housing & Infrastructure Council (HIC)
Many of you are aware of the HIC and its mandate. HIC was formed in November 2017 and is carrying out its mandate under the direction of resolutions from the Chiefs in assembly of the BC Assembly of First Nations, First Nations Summit and Union of BC Indian Chiefs.
HIC has a membership of 12 individuals consisting of 4 Chiefs, 7 specialists (housing, infrastructure & organizational development) and 1 youth member who are chosen to provide
- a wide range of skills required to guide HIC’s work,
- a reasonable representation of the various geographic regions in BC, and
- gender balance.
HIC members provide a range of skills that in total must include: housing management, infrastructure management, institutional development, housing & infrastructure policy, urban (on & off reserve) and finance. Additional specialized skills that are valuable to HIC’s work include: business development, legal, wrap-around services (primarily social supports), construction management, communications, change management, human resources management and research (Skill Matrix available on request).
HIC is filling 4 (four) of its 7 specialist positions to fill skills gaps in the council including institutional development, urban (on/off reserve) and finance.
A few points you might want to consider as you are entertaining this Expression of Interest.
- This is a working council that demands a minimum of 12 days per year and can be up to 50 depending on the member’s availability (regular conference calls, face-to-face meetings plus active involvement in HIC work. Members understand that some members will be able to contribute more than others, but each member is expected to carry their weight.
- HIC covers travel and professional fees for its members.
