Sylvia is originally from Pine Creek First Nations in MB and grew up in Winnipeg. Her traditional name is Maheegananseikwe (Coyote Women), and is Objiway, Bear Clan from the Prairies.

Sylvia has her Child and Youth Care degree from the University of Victoria, BC and has worked in the Surrey and Okanagan School Districts as an Indigenous CYC worker supporting First Nation families. Sylvia worked in the Addictions and Mental Health field training First Nations to use the Addictions Management Information System (AMIS) for reporting. She has worked in Child Welfare in Northern AB, Southwestern Ontario and most recently on Vancouver Island supporting First Nations directly which is a passion of hers. She also spent some time working in the homelessness sector while in London, Ontario and is very pleased to be joining FNHIC to continue supporting First Nations, now with their housing needs.

Sylvia strives to bring balance and wellness to others and is a certified Reflexologist, Reiki Practitioner and offers Indie Head massage on a casual part time basis. Sylvia enjoys spending her weekends RV camping with her husband and 18 year old son, loves being outdoors and hiking.
