Section 6: Data Consent Statement

The First Nations Housing & Infrastructure Council (FNHIC) is committed to supporting First Nations communities with housing and infrastructure services both on- and off-reserve. In doing so, FNHIC respects and upholds First Nations’ sovereignty over their information and data. As part of our collaboration, FNHIC may collect and use housing and infrastructure data provided through this application to support program administration, funding decisions, and advocacy efforts to close the infrastructure gap across British Columbia. FNHIC adheres to the principles of OCAP® (Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession) as developed by the First Nations Information Governance Centre (FNIGC). These principles guide our data collection, use, and storage practices. FNHIC staff receive training on OCAP® and are bound by our Data Management Policy, which ensures all data is handled with care, respect, and transparency. All data collected will: - Remain the property of the community. - Be used only for the administration of programs, funding decisions, and required reporting. - Be anonymized for any aggregate analysis unless explicit written consent is given for specific uses. - Never be shared outside of FNHIC without the Nation’s written approval. The community retains full ownership and control over its data. Consent may be revoked at any time, and FNHIC will work with the Nation to accommodate any specific data needs, preferences, or restrictions.
