Finance Manager
About the Role
The First Nations Housing and Infrastructure Council (FNHIC) is seeking a Finance Manager to provide high-level financial oversight and leadership in a remote capacity. As the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the Executive Director by leading financial planning, managing operational budgets, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. Collaborating closely with the FNHIC office manager, senior leadership, and external partners, you will develop and oversee financial processes that drive efficiency, sustainability, and strong financial management. This is a remote position with some travel for meetings with meeting several times per year.
Key Responsibilities
1. Budgeting, Financial Planning & Reporting
Lead the preparation, monitoring, and reporting of the annual budget, analyzing variances and providing actionable recommendations.
Oversee the allocation of financial resources and ensure strong financial oversight.
Support Directors and Managers in creating program-specific budgets and preparing financial reports for grant/funding applications.
Prepare accurate financial reports, models, and forecasts to support strategic planning and growth.
2. Accounting & Financial Operations
Oversee accounting operations, including budget preparation, audits, tax filings, and year-end financial statements.
Manage financial controls and implement policies and systems for efficiency and effectiveness.
Maintain relationships with banks, auditors, payroll services, and insurance providers.
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and risk management protocols.
3. Financial Strategy & Leadership
Build and maintain strong relationships with government bodies, Indigenous communities, and funders.
Lead financial strategies that align with Indigenous community needs.
Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions.
Provide financial insights to stakeholders and contribute to an inclusive and respectful work environment.

Possess a deep understanding of and a strong commitment to the First Nations of BC, demonstrating respect, cultural awareness, and a passion for supporting their communities.
Excellent communication skills, able to present complex financial information clearly.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
High level of integrity and confidentiality in financial operations.
Adaptability and flexibility to respond to changing needs.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and stay self-motivated in a remote environment while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
4+ years of progressive financial management experience
Experience managing operational budgets, grants, and financial reports for Boards of Directors.
Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel, and MS Office Suite.
Experience managing audits, tax filings, and financial operations, preferably in a nonprofit and/or Indigenous organization.
AFOA certificate is an asset.
Master’s degree in business, finance, or a related field is an asset.
Experience working with Indigenous communities is preferred.
Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles (ASNPO, fund accounting).
Experience with Federal or Provincial Housing authorities or housing providers.
