Kitselas First Nation – Kulspai Learning Village Tiny Homes
Kitselas First Nation’s Kulspai Learning Village Tiny Homes project shows how housing can serve multiple purposes at once. By building three to four energy-efficient tiny homes, the Nation is creating safe, supportive spaces for Indigenous youth and Elders while strengthening community connections.
A key part of the project is hands-on Red Seal trades training. Apprentices are directly involved in construction, gaining real experience while contributing to homes that will benefit their own community. It’s a practical way to build both housing and local workforce capacity at the same time.
The project also connects housing with cultural programming and wraparound supports. Youth have access to mentorship, skills development, and cultural learning, while Elders remain central as knowledge holders. This creates a space where intergenerational relationships can grow naturally.
With proper site servicing and planning in place, Kitselas is setting a strong foundation for future expansion. Combined with energy-efficient design, the homes are built to be sustainable, affordable to maintain, and aligned with long-term community needs.
Overall, this project goes beyond housing. It creates opportunity, strengthens culture, and builds a model for community-led development that can grow over time.
