Membership in the First Nations Housing & Infrastructure Council (FNHIC) is open exclusively to First Nations governments in British Columbia, uniting Nations to advance housing and infrastructure priorities through collective leadership and shared expertise.
FNHIC is a Nation-governed provincial organization dedicated to strengthening First Nations-led housing and infrastructure systems. Our membership model ensures decision-making authority remains with rights-holding BC First Nations — protecting Indigenous self-determination and collective advocacy power.

Eligibility
Membership is held by First Nations, not by individuals.
Eligible
First Nations located in British Columbia
Recognized under the Indian Act or otherwise legally recognized as a First Nation in Canada
Not Eligible
Individuals
Tribal councils or associations
Self-governing First Nations
Corporations, vendors, or service providers
Municipal, provincial, or federal governments
Non-profit or for-profit organizations
These entities may collaborate with FNHIC as partners or advisors but do not hold membership or voting rights.
Nation-Driven Governance
FNHIC is built on a clear principle: housing and infrastructure decisions must remain in the hands of BC First Nations.
Our structure safeguards:
Rights-Holder Authority – Only Member Nations vote and determine direction.
Self-Determination – Infrastructure futures are led by Nations.
Collective Mandate – Advocacy is grounded in formal membership.
Each Member Nation designates:
One Leadership Representative (Chief, Council, or delegated authority)
One Technical Representative (Housing, Infrastructure, or Operations lead)
This model ensures both political leadership and operational expertise guide our work.
Membership Standing
There are no annual membership dues.
A Member Nation remains in good standing by:
Are recognized First Nations in BC
Keeping Authorized Representatives current
Complying with governing documents and policies
Members in good standing retain full voting rights at General Meetings.
How to Become a Member
Becoming a Member is straightforward.
Submit an Expression of Interest
Complete the Membership Application Form
Provide written authorization (Band Council Resolution or equivalent)
Board review and approval
Receive written confirmation of membership and voting rights
Upon approval, your Nation is added to the official Register of Members and receives full access to benefits.
