Katie Dekker is a proud member of the Ktunaxa Nation, with ancestral ties to the Yaqan Nukiy band. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Simon Fraser University and brings a deep commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of Indigenous communities.

Before joining the First Nations Housing Infrastructure Council (FNHIC), Katie worked with the Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness for five years, where she served as the Youth Programs Manager. In this role, she led culturally supportive programming and housing services for at-risk and unhoused Indigenous youth, including harm reduction initiatives rooted in land-based healing practices.

Katie also served as a Policy Analyst with the BC Public Service, focusing on Indigenous Skills Training and Education. Her work emphasized inclusive, community-driven solutions and meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities.

With over three years of experience in policy analysis, program coordination, and research, Katie brings a strong foundation in Indigenous relations and a passion for creating transformative change through culturally grounded approaches.
